Excruciating heat, coupled with a pop up storm yesterday has been testing the young ladies. Coach Scerbo is happy to report that the girls are hanging in their well. Social activities so far have featured and Ice Cream social and Game Room night ( the girls lacrosse camp enjoyed Scot Lanes to themselves last night for free Bowling, Pool etc…). Tonight’s evening activity is the always popular Casino Night.

Two days in and we already have a winner in the stick trickcontest! Paige B. pulled off a stick trick the other coaches couldnot do and won the first round. On our evening ice cream social we foundout that we have an Irish dancer and a National level competitive Cheerleader so our talent show Wednesday night and our big Talent Show should be very entertaining!

In addition to different types of lacrosse camps (instructional, recruiting, team), there is a wide range of options with regards to overnight vs. day camps, length of stay and camp instructional curriculum.

Amando Formaro, a camp expert at kidscamps.com, details several important factors:

1. Finding the best fit

It’s important to sit down with your child and decide what they wish to gain from their summer camp experience. Is there something your child wants to gain from the camp experience? Be sure to ask about camp activities and how much time is spent in each area.

Is your child looking to be recruited for college this summer? Do they want help with their own playing skills? Do they want to stay overnight? All of these are questions you should ask in an attempt to find the right fit.

2. Cost

Summer lacrosse camps are expensive and this purchase can be a significant investment. There is a wide range of costs involved with summer camps, so make sure you understand the value of each option.

Obviously the cost involved with summer camp is a significant deciding factor. Before sitting down with your child and going over the camps available, you may wish to go through each one and decide which of them will fit into your budget first. Present the camps that fit into your finances and help your child pick from among them.

Also, be sure to check with each potential camp to see if there are “additional costs”. Some lacrosse camps charge extra from “social activities” (if they offer them). Others might include an “equipment fee” or other hidden costs.

3. Don’t limit by Location

There are summer lacrosse camps all over the United Statesa. If this is your child’s first summer camp experience, one closer to home may be a better option. However, if your child has attended summer camp before, don’t discount camps that may be in another state. With so many choices available, you may find a camp that’s farther away but has more of your child’s interests in mind.

4. Safety and Admnisistration

Perhaps the most important factor in choosing the right camp is understanding who is coaching at the camp. Is the camp director a Top Collegiate coach? If so, how much time do they spend at the camp. Many lacrosse camps feature a big name coach whom only makes a token appearance. The same is true of the top “Professional” players who host camps. Look for a camp with a proven track record. A new camp director might not understand the importance of camp safety. In addition, great players do not always make great teachers. Look for a camp with coaches that teach lacrosse for a living and full time. These camps tend to have the best staff’s as well. According to Formaro, ask questions about safety such as:

When deciding on a summer camp, be sure to find out what their procedures are should a medical emergency arise. How far is the nearest hospital? Are all staff members trained and certified in CPR? Is there a medical area on the grounds, and how is it staffed and stocked?

By taking a little bit more time and researching each potential summer lacrosse camp, you and your child will have a much better chance at picking the right lacrosse camp.

Mike Selvon, expert author at Ezinearticles.com, has a very insightful article on the state of sports camps in this country. The article can serve as a great starting point to understand how tennis camps, lacrosse camps and camps of various sports operate. Selvon states:

Sports camps for kids can be found almost everywhere around the country. If you type in the keywords “summer camp for sports” into any search engine, you will get back thousands of search results. Sorting through thousands of sports camps to find the right one for your child can be quite daunting though. A good way to easily identify the best sports camp for your kids is by considering a few key factors.

The article is an introduction to how some sports camps operate and include the following observations.

Some of the best summer camp programs for sports divide their attendees into groups of varying degrees of skill sets. Typically, the groups are broken down further into levels; introductory, intermediate and advanced. Grouping the campers into the different programs based on their set of skills helps organizers to identify what skills they need to work on so they can develop them more quickly.

During the introduction section, kids usually play some warm up games to demonstrate their actual skill levels. At the intermediate level, campers are taught the basic skills required for their sport, as well as new tips and techniques of the game. At the advanced level, the summer camp instructors teach the skills that are required to become professional players. As it comes to a close, each level will have learned teamwork, character building and life skills through sports.

If you or your child have never attended a sports camp, this article can serve as a primer on what to look for.

The Revolution Lacrosse Camps are proud to announce a brand new camp logo for 2011. The logo, designed Luciana Luraschi from Catamarca, Argentina was chosen during a contest held on logosauce.com. Almost 80 logos were submitted during the competition and Luraschi’s logo proved to be the winner in a very close competition.

According to Premier Sports Camps president David Schilling:

We feel the new logo represents the new excitement and positioning of our lacrosse camps. The logo has several iterations and can be used for web, print and merchandize advertising and marketing. Our new “brand mark” incorporates our original theme of “arrows and starts” representing the direction of our young players, but in a new and exciting manner. In addition, the mark forms a “X” which can be used in the term lax as well as other materials. We are very excited to introduce this new logo in 2011.

We know that you have several options when it comes to picking a top lacrosse camp. However, we at the Revolution Lacrosse Camp feel that we offer several benefits that make our camp one of the top camps available. Included in these are:

EXPERIENCE

Many lacrosse camps come and go each year. Some setup shop and never follow through and hold the camp. This is the result of lack of experience. The Revolution Lacrosse Camp in now entering our 8th season at the College of Wooster, and Premier Sports Camps have a wealth of experience hosting all sorts of sports camps in addition to these lacrosse camps (more than 20 years) With this experience comes an in depth knowledge of the right mixture between fun and hard work, to ensure that each student fully benefits from this camp experience.

In addition, we place significant emphasis on individual attention, a competitive environment, and hands-on instruction to guarantee not only a great learning environment for all levels of players, but to also build a passion and love for the sport of lacrosse. We supervise the kids 24 hours a day and it is our goal to see that each student enjoys themselves off the courts, while at the same time learning on the fields. Our Experience leads to your child having a GREAT EXPERIENCE!

VALUE

One of the hallmarks of the Premier Sports Camps and the Revolution Lacrosse Camp is value for the dollar. We make every effort to keep our fees as low as possible. In fact, at $510 per week, we are one of the lowest priced residential instructional camps in Ohio. In some cases we are more than $175-$250 less per week than our competitors. More importantly though, we are one of the only 5 day / 4 night camps in the country. It is our belief that young players need at least 5 days worth of repetitions in order to make the changes in their games that will see each player take the next step in their development.

STAFF

The key to any instructional lacrosse camp in the quality of instruction. We have hand picked our staff based on their abilities to instruct and relate to kids ages 8-18. There are many camps out there that have “big name” coaches or “outstanding players”, however the real question is, can these people teach the game, and more importantly can they relate and work with young kids. Our camp Directors have more than 20 years experience working lacrosse camps, and they carefully hire a good mix of coaches based on their expertise and communication skills. In addition, it is our goal to see to it that not only do the students have a top flight learning environment, but that they are able to have a enjoyable and fun camp experience as a whole. We want kids to continue to enjoy and love the game, as their skills progress.

In addition to the field work, the camp will also host a College Prep Symposium. This lecture will highlight what it takes to get recruited, what the differences in the different NCAA divisions, the ways to go about securing a college scholarship, understanding NCAA rules and guidelines, the admissions process and a timeline of the collegiate recruiting experience. In addition, current collegiate players will be on hand to discuss what their experiences are, how to balance the athletic and academic experience, and to answer questions on what college lacrosse means to them.

This new track at the Revolution Lacrosse Camp promises to be one of the most beneficial additions to our camp, and is unique to an instructional lacrosse camp nationwide.

We know that you have many choices when it comes to choosing a lacrosse camp. We feel that there are a few differences in the Revolution Lacrosse Camp that make it stand out as the best choice to help take your game to the next level.

STAFF & QUALITY OF INSTRUCTION:

First and foremost we are a teaching camp. Many lacrosse camps are game camps that focus on playing a lot of games or scrimmages during the week. Not the Revolution Lacrosse Camps. Although we do scrimmage each night, our main focus is on skill development. We hire a hand picked staff that are trained to help each camper develop his/her individual skills. Using the latest teaching techniques and limiting the size of the camp, we are able to offer a great deal of one-on-one and individual attention to ensure that each camper maximizes there time of the fields.

5 Day / 4 Night Camp

A growing trend in lacrosse camps in Ohio and throughout the Midwest is to go to shorter 4 day, 3 day or even 2 day clinics and camps. We feel that it is imperative that our camps last a full 5 days. Many of the techniques and skills that are taught require much repetition in order to build the muscle memory necessary to incorporate these skill into a young players game. The extra day(s) of camp allows for this level of repetition. In addition, we feel that with more time around our instructors, a level of comfort grows and a trust is developed that further allows young players to incorporate new concepts into their skill sets. A 5 day/ 4 night camp is essential for true player development while at camp.

EXPERIENCE

Premier Sports Camps have been hosting camps for more than 2o years. We understand the importance in keeping kids busy both on the fields and off. A compressive progression of teaching on the fields, is paired with full activities off the fields to ensure that each young player not only develops new skills, but also builds their passion for the game. Many camps have

2 or 3 field sessions a day, then ignore the campers off the fields. Our camps have social and recreational opportunities daily and we keep the kids busy from 7:30 in the morning until 10:30 at night. A full well rounded day helps ensure that our campers continue their passion for the sport and are open to learning on the fields

SAFETY

Safety is a top priority for the Revolution Lacrosse Camps. Our staff is responsible for the whereabouts of all campers for 24 hours each day. We purposely keep our camp enrollment smaller than some of our competitors, not only to offer more individualized attention on the fields, but to ensure a safe environment off the fields. The staff is with the kids in the dorms, the dining hall, the fields and at all social and recreational activities. In addition, there is a trainer in the dorms, a camp security staff and full time college campus security force during all camp sessions.
